I got my new CAMRA membership card today. I also got some Wetherspoons vouchers with it. Apparently I can't use them in Scotland because of the new laws there.
It'll never happen in England of course. Perhaps we said the same about poll tax and the smoking ban.

It's not because of the new laws, it's because JDW is using the new laws as an excuse not to accept them. I would go along and ostentatiously try to use one just to argue the toss, but to be honest I can't be bothered for the sake of saving 50p on an already cheap pint.
It's very hard to see JDW shooting themselves in the foot like that. Has anyone in a position of authority in Scotland actually said categorically that the new legislation does not outlaw the JDW vouchers?
The legislation outlaws "irresponsible promotions". It is meant to ban "buy one get one free" offers and things like that. You'd have a tough time arguing that a 50p off voucher, issued only in advance to members of an somewhat staid organisation with a substantial subscription fee, constitutes such.
The graphic on the voucher looks like it says "SOD OFF".
It could easily happen in England I suspect, and fear.
