Lager - lateral thinking??

This is interesting. Give lager a good name.

I am convinced the pub industry needs to think laterally. ANYBODY who knows me knows my thoughts on lager. Lets think though, if we can't beat them entirely with Real Ale perhaps this is a way of beating them at their own game??

  1. Lager doesn't necessarily HAVE to be bland, lifeless and moronic. If it is carefully designed and brewed by real people, the result might be something drinkable and likable. Over here, Heater Allen (http://www.heaterallen.com/) is carving their niche, much like The Cotswold Brewing Company.

Of course, a pint of Stout Tenacity at the Woolpack, or maybe a Cumbrian Moor at the Local 180, might be the ticket towards an increased I.Q. and sex appeal.

  2. Now then, intelligent and sexy - it would be soooo nice to be able to use these features as part of our marketing ploy - I mean this is something that so many Real Ale drinkers look for in a beer. The sex-appeal factor.

Unfortunately if we did that we’d be in so much trouble from the Portman group.

Mind you Tenacity suggests something aggressive – oh no., we’re doooooomed!!!

This blog was originally started by Dave to describe difficulties running a pub, and then later a brewery.

He has now left the beer industry, probably forever, quite disillusioned by the whole experience.
